Last weekend, I finally had “all my ducks in a row” and was ready to fire up my new 1000mm X-Carve machine for my first carve using Inventables’ “Easel” software.
I made a simple sign design and started carving, using a very cheap piece of ¾” plywood. Because of using cheap material, I experienced some rip-out around some of the lettering, but otherwise the first carve went quite well. I then carved a second sign, same size, and same design; only this time I used ½” MDF and the result was perfect. The only variance in this case is that I changed to a 60-degree V-bit.
After the first two signs, I began experimenting with other designs and started carving other things. All went well without any problems. Using one of these machines is “wicked good” fun though, and quite addictive. I think it will prove to be well worth the investment for my shop.
A big shout-out and many thanks to Griffin Dennis and many other folks at Inventables for providing excellent support during the process of setting up my machine and making it operational. I absolutely love this company and their incredible enthusiasm, dedication, and follow through with customers.
I purchased my machine from Inventables. They do not sponsor me, nor did they give me the machine. My comments about their great service and quality of merchandise are genuine and come from my actual experience.
