Ep 12 – 18′ Sailboat Build (Prep for Bottom Panels)

sailboat bottom prep

After fitting and installing the side panels on the boat hull, the next step is to prepare the mating surfaces for the bottom panels.

In this video, I trimmed the excess side panel material from the stem and transom, the I planed, and belt sanded the chines and main frame bottoms to a uniform flat surface from side to side. This allows for a good seal between the bottom panels and side panels, transom, and stem. It also provides for a stronger hull with greater structural rigidity.

I hope you enjoy this video!
