Visit Lubec, Maine! An untapped Gem

Lubec

Let me welcome you to Lubec, Maine!

Lubec is the easternmost point of land in the continental United States. It is the first stretch of coastline in the US to see the sun each morning!

Lubec is relatively unknown to most tourists and until recently, it has largely been a blue-collar fishing port, and used to be a remarkably busy seaport for the sardine industry with a number of sardine canneries.

In recent years, Lubec has been discovered by artists such as painters, sculptors, photographers, videographers, and other artisans for its quaintness and the natural beauty that surrounds it.

Lubec is accessed by traveling down state road Rte. 189, about 11 miles from US Rte. 1. The heart of Lubec is located on a small peninsula but extends out around the mainland to the north and south as well.

The International Bridge extends from Lubec to Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada and is the home of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Of course, the border is now closed due to the world pandemic (COVID-19) except for a local traffic allowance so people living on Campobello Island can reach the mainland in the US to access groceries, medicines, etc. You can get more info on Campobello by visiting this URL: https://www.visitcampobello.com/

The video ends with a visit to one of the Cobscook Shores Parks located in Lubec. This is the first of 11 privately owned and operated parks in the immediate area that has just opened, and the remainder of them should be finished and opened to the public in 2021. Use of these parks is free and no expense was spared in building them as you will see in the video. More information and maps are available by visiting this URL: https://cobscookshores.org/

Lubec is located nearby our home in Milbridge, Maine and we enjoy visiting there quite often. There are more unknown gems within Lubec I did not have time to cover in this video. If there is enough interest though, I will investigate putting out a few more videos about this area. One particular little gem is Monica’s Chocolates! Monica came to Lubec from Peru about 18 years ago and built a solid business from scratch! Her chocolates are incredible and only found in the high-end gift shops or purchased directly from her. I can personally attest to Monica’s Dark chocolate! The Monica’s Chocolates URL is: https://www.monicaschocolates.com

Here’s the video:

Note: As of March 4th, 2023 – I received notice from YouTube there was a copyright claim on the music I used in the video. I had used the music (at the time) that was offered royalty free by the artist as long as attribution was published under a creative commons license (which I did). Now the music is being distributed by a company that is claiming copyright rights and making claims against users of this music used prior to them taking possession of it. YouTube penalizes creators when this happens, takes all revenues earned by the video and gives it to the claimant. This is pure bullshit in my opinion. I also noticed these claims only surface on the more popular videos with thousands of views and that have accumulated a sizable amount of ad revenue. All these companies have to do is make a claim and collect the creators hard earned money – even though all the rules were followed at the time the video was published. I have therefore deleted the video from my YouTube account and I will re-post it here after I have time to re=edit the video and eliminate the music in question. Then the claimants can go pound sand!
