I just don’t understand why you pirates out there insist on spending all your hard-won booty on utilitarian tender dinghies that get lost, trashed, and stolen when you can build ‘yer own. Usually, it’s a whole lot cheaper and it’s not all that difficult.

I’ve put a playlist together on my Shoestring Shipyard Sailing channel that includes a how-to tutorial of 26 steps, spread out over several videos. This video is a compilation of those videos to provide a basic overview and provides a bit more information than the “super-fast” version. If you do in fact intend to build yourself a dinghy, I recommend watching the individual tutorial videos from start to finish.

This video and the tutorial videos feature my 8’ Frugal Skiff design however I have a set of plans for my 8’ “Simple Simon” design which happens to be easier to build along with step-by-step instructions. These are contained in my 78 page manual on how to design and build your own flat bottomed skiff, and you can download the pdf version for free.

My FREE 78-page manual on how to design and build your own flat-bottomed skiff contains all of the instructions, drawings with dimensions, and much more information about building your own “Simple Simon.” You’ll find all of the Simple Simon info towards the end of the manual and you can download your FREE copy in pdf format from this download page: https://www.downeastthunder.com/2020/12/free-dinghy-design-build-manual/

Get off the couch right now (after you watch this video and download the manual) and start making sawdust!
