Let me welcome you to Lubec, Maine! Lubec is the easternmost point of land in the continental United States and is the first stretch of coastline in the US to see the sun each morning!
Please note this is a re-make/re-post of the original video due to bogus copyright music claims which seems to becoming more frequent among YouTube creators. The problem is when a claim is made, YouTube immediately takes away any money earned from the video creator and gives it to the claimant, along with any further revenue generated. This can be fought, but YouTube makes it a long arduous process that is simply not worth the hassle in most cases. The claimants seem to choose only those videos that have thousands of views and have built up substantial revenue. The original video was published over two years ago. Full credit/attribution was given to the original artist/owner of the music with permission given to use the music royalty free under creative commons license. The claimant over two years later is some fly by night music distribution company now claiming ownership and copyright. YouTube with its burgeoning complexities and constantly generated strict rules are making the video production thing not so much fun anymore. So this is the remake without the copyright BS claimed music.
Lubec is relatively unknown to most tourists and until recently, it has largely been a blue-collar fishing port. It used to be a remarkably busy seaport for the sardine industry with a number of sardine canneries.
However in recent years, Lubec has been discovered by artists such as painters, sculptors, photographers, videographers, and other artisans for its quaintness and the natural beauty that surrounds it. It is also beginning to be discovered by yachtsmen (slowly but surely).
Lubec offers restaurants, taverns, inns, a hardware store, and other amenities (including an IGA supermarket). All of which are within easy access of the town Marina. The only drawback is getting fuel. There is a gas station (McFadden’s Variety) a couple of miles outside of town, but visiting yachtsmen would need to get a ride for help with ferrying fuel containers back and forth.
Lubec is accessed from land by traveling down state road Rte. 189, about 11 miles from US Rte. 1. The heart of Lubec is located on a small peninsula but extends out around the mainland to the north and south as well. The International Bridge extends from Lubec to Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada and is the home of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. The border was closed during the world pandemic (COVID-19) when this video was originally made, except for a local traffic allowance so people living on Campobello Island can reach the mainland in the US to access groceries, medicines, etc.
You can get more info on Campobello by visiting this URL: https://www.visitcampobello.com/
The video ends with a visit to one of the Cobscook Shores Parks located in Lubec. This is the first of 11 privately owned and operated parks in the immediate area that has just opened, and the remainder of them should be finished and opened to the public in 2021. Use of these parks is free, and no expense was spared in building them as you will see in the video. More information and maps are available by visiting this URL: https://cobscookshores.org/
Lubec is located nearby our home in Milbridge, Maine and we enjoy visiting there quite often. There are more unknown gems within Lubec I did not have time to cover in this video. If there is enough interest though, I will investigate putting out a few more videos about this area.
One particular little gem is Monica’s Chocolates! Monica came to Lubec from Peru about 18 years ago and built a solid business from scratch! Her chocolates are incredible and only found in the high-end gift shops or purchased directly from her. I can personally attest to Monica’s Dark chocolate! The Monica’s Chocolates URL is: https://www.monicaschocolates.com
