The local trash collection guys can be a bit rough on trash cans and the trash cans tend to get beat up in a hurry, suffering a very short life span. The problem is that these trash cans can cost over $50.00 and we can’t afford to simply discard them and buy new ones every few weeks.
The trash can in this video originally featured a non-detachable lid that had been broken by the trash collection crew a couple of times and repaired by me. The last time they broke it, the lid was completely torn off and no longer repairable. I then fashioned a wooden lid but only had a thin piece Luan plywood (door skin) to make the new lid at the time. I used some scrap red oak for a framework to strengthen the lid but I knew it was only a temporary solution and I would have to address this problem again in the future.
Here we are about a year later. As I suspected, the thin Luan ply (interior grade) finally delaminated and “gave up the ghost,” so to speak. This video addresses the fix for that problem and our trash can lives again!
