In this latest update on the Tiny House build, we are installing corrugated steel roofing panels as the outside wall siding. Using this material was less money than using cedar shingles or vinyl siding. The total cost of all the steel panels, trim pieces, tubes of sealant, and gasketed screws was less than $1500.00 from an Amish company called Metals Unlimited in Unity, Maine.
Because not everything is perfectly square and plumb, plus I work mostly by myself, I used 1/8” thick Luan plywood (door skins) used to make interior hollow doors and ripped them into 2” wide strips. I then used those strips with hot glue, staples, and duct tape to make a template for each panel. The template was then superimposed over a full panel, and then I was able to trace around the template with a Sharpie to assure accurate cuts around windows and doors. This method works well for me and worth the extra work involved.
I’m continuing to post slideshow/video content of this build in spite of the lack of interest for my family’s use in the years to come. Of course, this channel is not only about building a tiny house and there will be quite a bit of varied content in the near future.
