The new Milbridge Commons Park & Garden officially opened on Saturday, October 20th, 2018.The park is located along the ocean waterfront just off of Main Street in Milbridge, Maine.

This video documents some of the highlights of the celebration that took place during the day the park officially opened. The set-up during the morning proved challenging with steady 17 mph winds and wind gusts of up to 29mph. The skies were overcast with scattered light rain showers, and it was a bit cold & raw. The weather did moderate later on, with the sun shining through along with a warm-up, and the winds subsided by a reasonable margin.

All in attendance had a great time, and there were plenty of children on hand, taking advantage of the new park and the large play area in place, away from busy traffic. Adults of all ages were in attendance too, walking the new track, meeting and greeting neighbors, and making new friends. Free food was in abundance, and local musicians donated their time, adding to the festivities.

The new park is a collaboration between the Women’s Health Resource Library (WHRL) and the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. The park was built entirely with various foundation grants and local, individual contributions. No public funds were used in this venture.

Phase #1 of the park has recently been completed which includes the driveway with parking area into the park, and the walking track. It also includes water, with several spigots in the various garden areas.

Several of the gardens will be for fruits and vegetables (part of the WHRL’s “Incredible Edible Milbridge program, where the produce grown is free for the picking by any visitor to the park).

Funds are presently being raised for Phase #2 where a chidren’s playground will be built on site, along with a labyrinth, amphitheater, gazebo, and other features. Further improvements and additions will take part in a Phase #3 segment.
