The new wedge type anchors by Mantis and Rocna have proven themselves to be perhaps the best All-around anchor you can have on your boat, with superior holding power in most conditions and sea bottoms. These are patented designs and are very expensive.
I would absolutely love to have one for my new 18’ sailboat that I’m presently building, but I can’t afford one now that I’m retired and on a limited income.
That doesn’t mean I’m out of luck and can’t have one, though.
I’m making my own version! Join my adventure in developing my own Mantis-Rocna anchor clone in a mini-series, starting with this first segment.
Here’s the video:
Hi, Have you mesured an original mantis anchor ? Do you have the plans ?
I would be interrested in it. I would tip for this.
..And I could probably 3d modeling it on sketchup if you want. (im faster on sketchup then with a grinder)
Frederic, You can find drawings and dimensions for both: Rocna and Mantis. They each have them posted on their respective web sites. They also have charts to determine which size anchor would be most appropriate for your vessel. I’m a retired marine engineer and naval architect, and I normally work up drawings in CAD but I didn’t with this project because you can already get all of that information directly from the manufacturers I mentioned above. I will however put together a drawing with dimensions in both Imperial and Metric, showing the materials I used specifically for the sailboat I designed and presently have under construction for people interested in that sort of thing. It will be posted soon on my Patreon page for my subscribed patrons, and they’ll be able to download it free in pdf format. Thanks for your inquiry.
